The full audio for LabChat is now available as a series of YouTube videos. In addition, you can read the transcription prepared by Inara Pey, together with sound files, which she has broken down by subject. And Inara has also provided a very helpful summary of the discussion, which you can read here.

Our guests were Ebbe Linden, CEO of Linden Lab, Oz Linden, Ohe Engineering Director of Second Life, and Troy Linden, Senior Producer and they answered a selection of resident questions, chosen by the Lab Chat team, from among a selection submitted to an official forum thread, and also asked during the episode by the live audience.

From Inara Pey (links here will take you to her blog, Living in a Modem World):

Please note that in places the audio presented in conjunction with the transcripts has been edited to remove asides, repetition or removed inaudible elements, and so may differ in length and content to the official recordings made of the session. However, no attempt has been made to alter the content or context of the answers supplied by Ebbe, Oz and Troy.

For ease of reference, the session has been split into two parts, and the following Quick links will take readers to any specific topics of interest to them, and further topics can be navigated to by either returning to this page, or using the Quick Links summaries provided within the Bento / Second Life and Project Sansar pages.

Inara has also provided a very helpful summary of the discussion, which you can read here.

This will be the third Lab Chat – and we have some special guests lined up for you. Joining Ebbe, we will have Oz Linden and Troy Linden available to take your questions about Project Bento and other Second Life development topics!

As Director of Second Life Engineering, and Senior Producer of Second Life respectively, Oz and Troy are two of the best people to ask about the development process, Second Life roadmap, and features for Second Life.

Residents from the Lab Chat production team will select questions to ask Ebbe, Oz, and Troy from this forum thread – so be sure to get your questions into the thread no later than Friday April 29th, 2016.

Lab Chat #2: Ebbe Altberg – transcript and audio

Lab Chat #2, January 21st, 2016 - Jo Yardley, Ebbe Altberg and Saffia Widdershins
Lab Chat #2, January 21st, 2016 – Jo Yardley, Ebbe Altberg and Saffia Widdershins

Thursday, January 21st saw the second in a series of discussions called Lab Chat, billed as “an opportunity for you to ask Lindens your questions during a live taping that will be recorded and archived for everyone to view.”

As with the first show, the session featured the Lab’s CEO, Ebbe Altberg in his alter ego of Ebbe Linden. In preparation for the recording, Second Life users were invited to ask questions about the Lab, Second Life, “Project Sansar”, etc on a forum thread.

Over 80 questions were asked, all of which were reviewed by the Lab Chat production team, and from which the list of question to put to Ebbe was drawn. The questions select were those the production team thought would be of most interest to the attending audience, or represented those questions which were asked multiple times by different people.

The following pages offer a transcript of the show’s recording session, which has been split into three parts:

  • Those questions and answers those related to Second Life
  • Those focused more on Project Sansar
  • Additional questions & audience Q&A.

The first two sections are presented in chronological order – as the questions were asked during the recording of the show. The additional questions have been grouped together (where possible) by subject matter, for ease of reference.

The Quick Links below will take you directly to each of these three sections, or to any of the individual discussion points within them. Each question / answer includes an audio extract of that question and response for those who wish to listen rather than read.

Quick Links

Concerning Second Life

Concerning Sansar

Additional Questions

Closing Comments

Note: this is not a transcript of the entire recording session. The focus is on the questions asked and responses given. Also, the audio extracts are from a recording which was cleaned-up following the show to remove repetitions, pauses, trailing comments which otherwise break the flow / context of replies. However, no attempt has been made to editorialise or in any way alter the context of any response given to questions.

With thanks to Inara Pey for the transcript and links.

We had a great LabChat with Ebbe Linden yesterday!  Over 120 of you attended in person, and filled the three open audience regions throughout the hour and a half show.

Ebbe gave very full answers to questions about Project Bento and, of course, Project Sansar, addressing the wide range of questions that we selected from the Forum – and some asked by our live audience too.

The next episode of Lab Chat will be on Thursday 21st January, and the forum for posting questions to be asked on the show will be closing at midnight on Friday 15th January, so this is your last chance to get your questions in!

The questions to feature on the show will be chosen by the Lab Chat team (who are all residents). Don’t worry if your question isn’t chosen – as you may have a chance to ask it in the open session at the end (if there is time).

People whose questions are chosen will be invited to appear on the stage. They will be able to put their questions directly to Ebbe, in voice if they wish (or their questions will be read if they don’t use Voice/Skype).

Try to keep your questions brief – longer questions can still be chosen by the team, but they may need to be edited in order to squeeze as many questions as possible into the show!

So don’t miss your chance to ask your questions now! https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Upcoming-Events-and-Activities/Lab-Chat-Returns-January-21st-2016-with-Linden-Lab-CEO-Ebbe/td-p/2993029

How do you submit your questions?

You enter your questions on the special Linden Lab Forum which will be opened for questions shortly – we’ll tell you when and where to go!

The audience will be in the other three regions of the Theater. Voice relays mean that what is said will be audible on all four regions. There are also a set of text chat relays so that all text should be visible on all regions, and we have a team in the Theater who will be providing a voice-to-text service to let people know what is being said in voice. If there’s time, questions asked in text chat will also be put to Ebbe.

There will be a full transcription published later to accompany the video. Highlights will be broadcast on the Drax Radio Files show.

We’re really excited about this – and we hope you will be too!

So get your questions in by Friday 15th January– and we will see you at the show on the 21st.
